In Memory of Joachim 'Joe' Weinberg Warwick class of 1986

Joachim Weinberg, Wide Receiver and Warwick High School Graduate, 1986, passed away December 15th, 2008 in Los Angeles California from a lengthy battle with a rare form of cancer.

Joe enrolled in College at Johnson C Smith University in Charlotte where he was an All-CIAA player and received national recognition in 1987 as one of the nations best wide receivers. It was during his career with the Redskins that Bobby Beathard first noticed Joe and another HBCU standout, Yancey Thigpen from Winston Salem State. Joe was drafted in 1991 in the 11th round by Bobby Beathard the new GM of the San Diego Chargers. Joe did not ake the final roster and was cut just before the 91 season began. He went on to play for the Edmonton Eskimos for one season.

Joe was a great man and his football accomplishments are trivial in comparison to his impact on his community and the legacy he left behind as a Christian man, husband and father. Joe was my Minister for over 10 years and his impact has been felt by thousands. Joe was buried in Columbia, South Carolina at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery on December 22nd of 2008. He leaves behind thousands of friends and family, his wife Marva and 8 year old son Miles.

If you have any idea where I can find any video footage of Warwick High School football games or photos from Joe's years there, his family would be eternally grateful. I am assembling a collection of memorabilia, videos, photos and other items from Joes life as a gift to his wife and son.

Joe loved his hometown of Newport News, spoke of it often, friends and family, the coaches he grew up with, spoke proudly of his years at Warwick and Johnson C Smith. If you knew him please share any memories you might have of him and I will happily include them in our legacy project.

God Bless you all,

Re: In Memory of Joachim 'Joe' Weinberg Warwick class of 1986

I know often it is dificult to see how or what you might say in response to a post like this. All I am really looking for is a few people who remember him from his high school days and perhaps one or two people will lead to another that has a game photo or a home movie or something of that nature.

If you remember Joe and you want to call me that is great to.

God bless,
